Second semester of the Enrichment Program began August 5th with 72 second, third, fourth and fifth graders. They are divided into three groups: second and third graders, fourth and fifth graders; and, a mixture of all those who cannot read.
We have purchased 30 Recorders (Song Flutes). These will be used by Thaila, our student of 5 years who plays the cello, to begin the music program.
Some of the houses near União Baptist Church have bars in front of the door. When Darrel was visiting in the homes of our violin students, he noticed a boy always looking out through the bars. He asked the mother if the boy could come to club. She said “yes” but he had to be picked up and brought back. He had gotten in with a family of thieves and was stealing. His desperate parents locked him in. They started coming to church to bring him and accepted Christ in a Bible study. On Darrel’s last visit they told him they had taken Emanuel to a relative’s house where he immediately stole some money out of the bedroom.
Darrel’s mother was promoted to her heavenly home during the night of July 24. We will be leaving August 24, on a 35-hour trip to Phoenix, Arizona. There are shorter trips but they cost twice as much and this trip fits just right. After the Memorial Service, August 29, we will visit some churches in Arizona and California before heading east to visit the grandchildren. We have already been scheduled for a weekend to baby sit.
